About the role
LitmusLayer monitors what AI models say about a brand, verifies every factual claim, and keeps a legally defensible audit trail. The backend is where that happens. It covers API routes, a Postgres data model, and durable background jobs that fan out across multiple AI providers.
As a backend placement student you will own small, well-scoped features from start to finish. You will design the data access, write the route, validate the input, and add tests. You will be writing code that runs in production, reviewed by an engineer who helps you level up every week.

What you'll do
- Build and extend Next.js App Router API routes with strict input validation using Zod.
- Design and query Postgres tables, including row-level security and performance indexes.
- Implement durable background jobs that orchestrate calls to multiple AI model providers.
- Write clear, deterministic unit tests for the code you ship.
- Instrument endpoints with sensible error handling so nothing fails silently.
What we're looking for
Preferred background: Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical degree preferred.
- Currently studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical degree.
- Comfortable with JavaScript or TypeScript and at least one server-side language.
- Understanding of HTTP, REST, and relational databases.
- Able to read a problem, ask good questions, and break it into small commits.
- Reliable async communication. You keep your mentor updated without being chased.
Nice to have
Genuinely optional. Do not let a gap here stop you applying.
- Exposure to Next.js, Node.js, or Postgres.
- Any experience with an ORM, a query builder, or raw SQL migrations.
- Familiarity with Git-based pull-request workflows.
