About the role
This is the low-level, no-shortcuts track. LitmusLayer fans out across multiple AI providers, each with its own rate limits and failure modes, and every run has to be recoverable. Getting that right is unglamorous, demanding, and genuinely important work.
As a core systems placement student you will work on the durable job layer, concurrency and rate limiting, retries and idempotency, and the tamper-evident hash chain behind the audit ledger. You will care about the details most people skip, because in this product a silent failure is not acceptable.
What you'll work with
What you'll do
- Build and harden durable background jobs with Inngest, including retries and idempotency.
- Implement concurrency limits and provider rate limiting so nothing gets throttled or lost.
- Work on the SHA-256 hash-chained audit ledger that keeps records tamper-evident.
- Add graceful error handling and recovery so every failure is observable.
- Instrument and measure latency, throughput, and where time is actually spent.
What we're looking for
Preferred background: Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical degree preferred.
- Currently studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical degree.
- Comfortable with systems concepts such as concurrency, retries, idempotency, and failure modes.
- Solid TypeScript or JavaScript, or another systems-capable language.
- Patience and rigour. You enjoy the hard, detailed problems, not just the flashy ones.
- Understanding of hashing and basic cryptographic integrity is a plus.
Nice to have
Genuinely optional. Do not let a gap here stop you applying.
- Exposure to job queues, message systems, or distributed processing.
- Any experience with rate limiting, backoff strategies, or observability tooling.
- Interest in cryptographic hashing and append-only data structures.
